Registering a New Device to a Display

Modified on Thu, 31 Aug, 2023 at 3:08 PM

In the below example we Register a ChromeOS device. The Process should be similar for other Devices/Operating Systems.

1. Install the AEM Screens Player to Run on the Device in Kiosk Mode (for Chrome this is done through Google CDM)

2. Define the AEM Author URL & Desired Admin Configs (update the JSON used by the AEM Screens Player via Google CDM). This ensures that the Device will point to AEM author when it restarts & it can be registered with AEM. This can also be done manually through the AEM Screens Player config menu (to access this menu long mouse press in the top left corner of the Display when the Player is running), select Save Changes.

Skip steps 1 & 2 if a dedicated OU in CDM has already been set-up, simply Move the Device to the Desired OU and select Reboot

3. Restart/Reboot the Device

4. When the Player Starts up you should see a REGISTRATION Token (this is shown on the Screens Admin screen within the Device Registration Tab)

5. Login to AEM, Browse to your AEM Screens Project, Select/Tick Devices & then select Device Manager (in the top nav menu)

6. On the Device Manager page you will see a blue Device Registration CTA (top right side of Screen), select it

7. On the Next Screen, you should see the Device's Registration Token (as per Step 4 above)

8. Tick/Select the Device & select Register Device

9. AEM will Present the same Validation Code on the Device & on the Device Registration page, confirm the codes are the same & select Validate

10. Next Define the Device Name (this may automatically get generated based on the Device's Asset ID) then select Register.

11. Finally you need to Assign the Device to the Display, browse to the Display you just created and Assign it. The Device has now Assigned to the Display in AEM Author.

12. Now you have to Activate the Device and ensure that the Device is connected to AEM Publish Instance. Return to the Device Manager. Find and Select/Tick the Device, select Activate & then select Edit Server URL. Now update the Device to ensure that it is pointing to your AEM Publish Instance.

13. After a minute the Device should Restart & Relaunch this time connected to AEM Publish.

14. Wait a few minutes for the Channel/Campaigns to download & start playing on the Display

If after 10 minutes nothing is Playing on the Display, we suggest "Dirtying the Channel" (see the following article for details on how to do this) & Publishing the Channel again.
